McDowell Visits Michigan Again

Michigan hosted Detroit Loyola (Mich.) junior defensive tackle Malik McDowell today and the big man had positive things to say about the experience.

Detroit Loyola defensive tackle Malik McDowell is one of the top juniors in the Mitten State and was in Ann Arbor today for a visit and basketball game.

"Everything went okay. It was fun. It was a good game. The atmosphere was nice. Everybody was real hyped."

McDowell has offers from a who's who of top college football programs. The Wolverines offered him around this time a year ago. Since then, he has been to campus a couple of times and today allowed him to speak with the coaches again. Their message?

"Pretty much that they want me to come to Michigan. We didn't talk about football much, it was just talking."

Among the other visitors today was Lawrence Marshall, a defensive end from Southfield who trains at HYPE Athletics with McDowell. While they are training partners, that does not mean they will be D-Line partners at the next level.

"Not really. We don't really ever talk about going to the same school," he explained.

A fine student in the classroom, McDowell has always emphasized academics in his decision process. He had a chance to see some of that today.

"I went to the academic center. It was nice. I really like the M-Pact."

McDowell has long denied any favorite or top school. He visited Michigan State recently, and has other programs like Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Oregon, and Florida State on his offer list.

This spring and summer, he will likely take many more visits, but for the moment, he only has one other planned.

"I'm probably going to go up to the Michigan-Indiana game."

McDowell was recently named MVP at the Core 6 Showcase in Ohio.
