Hood has top three in order

The depth at running back in the south is profound in 2014. Elijah Hood is among the best and he has a new top three after visiting each over the weekend.

"My top three is Notre Dame, Michigan, and Ohio State in that order," Elijah Hood told Scout Monday afternoon.

This list is fresh off a weekend where he spent time in South Bend, Ann Arbor, and Columbus.

Ohio State had him on their campus Sunday.

"I like how they are building the program. They are making players accountable, creating men out of their players, and the coaches know what they are doing there. Running backs coach Stan Drayton is magnificent too. He is fun, he is about family, he is very personal, and he knows the game. I really like how he teaches the game."

The Buckeyes had his attention on Sunday and their rival Michigan had his attention the day before.

He had a good time there.

"Coach Brady Hoke and all of those guys are awesome up there. They are great people and they love working together. The academic support there is great and they are family oriented too. I really like that. The people there are happy and they seem to really love the way it is at Michigan, so that was nice to see."

Those two schools are looking up to the school that Hood visited on Friday. Brian Kelly's program is on top for this Scout100 prospect.

"Notre Dame are different, it just is. The university is different, they look at things different, and I love how they are a school of excellence. I want to be excellent on and off the field and they expect nothing less from their guys. I love their graduation rate, especially with their African-Americans. There is just that feeling up there that is different and I really like it."

When asked what exactly puts the Irish over the Wolverines and Buckeyes, Hood said, "It is a gut feeling. I would be honored to go to any of those three schools, but Notre Dame is the one for me right now. They are my top school."

Hood is considered as one of the top prospects in the south, but he is leaning towards leaving his state and his region right now, does he see it staying that way?

"I think it would be better for me to go see a different part of the country. I have been in the south my entire life. I fit in up there the best based on what I can see right now," said the 6-foot-1, 215 pound running back out of Charlotte (N.C.) Charlotte Catholic.

There is no decision date set for Hood, but he anticipates committing to someone the 2013 season kicks off.

He had 3,309 yards rushing and 48 touchdowns as a junior.
