After getting his release from the University of Arizona on May 1st, Angelo Chol has decided to transfer to San Diego State University. The 6'9 forward played his high school ball at Herbert Hoover HS, which is only 3 miles away from the SDSU campus. In high school Chol earned impressive accolades, including being ranked in the Scout.com top #50 recruits of the class of 2011 and a roster spot on the prestigious USA Junior National Team.
Chol saw his minutes dip from 12.1 a game as a freshman to 8.5 a game as a sophomore. The decrease in playing time played a major role in his decision to leave the University of Arizona. Before committing to SDSU, Chol was quoted saying " I want the opportunity to play consistently".
The former Arizona Wildcat visited the SDSU campus on May 7th, and after seeing what the Aztecs had to offer, he committed the next day. "I felt it was a great fit and seems like the opportunities are there for me" said Chol after committing to the Aztecs.
Ollie Goulston, Chol's former high school coach, played a major role in aiding Chol with his decision to transfer. Concerning Chol's recent commitment Goulston said, "Coming home was definitely a positive and of course playing for Coach Fisher who is patient and also instills confidence in his players. At the end of the day Angelo looked at it like SDSU is where the best opportunities were."
Chol will have to sit out the next season, becoming eligible for the 2014-15 season and will have two years remaining to play for the Aztecs. Potentially pairing up with high-flyer Skylar Spencer, the addition of Chol makes the Aztecs defensively overbearing in the post, and will certainly cause problems for other teams in the Mountain West Conference.
