Brown Picks Up No. 2

Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic linebacker Caanan Brown has picked up his second scholarship offer.

Caanan Brown is an under the radar prospect from Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic High School. While at the high school scouting his teammate Justus Reed, Virginia saw Brown and offered him the other day. It was his first offer, according to his coach John Davis.

"They came to see Justus and offered him and then came back and offered Caanan the other night," Davis said. "That was his first. But I bet he will have a bunch of the next few weeks."

Then this week Brown picked up offer No. 2 from UMass.

"It seems like there are two to three schools that come through here each day for me and Justus," Brown said. "Right now I just want to see who offers and then make all my decisions about visits and camps from that. So I am wide open."

Brown, now 6-foot-3 and 235-pounds, is a guy that's versatile enough to play in different schemes at different positions.

"He plays linebacker for us but he also comes off the edge to rush the passer," Davis said. "You should have seen him bull rush the [Mason] Cole kid. He put him on his back and not too many guys do that to that kid.

"Caanan is long and has that frame. He could be a down guy and put his hand on the ground or could be a 3-4 outside guy or just a defensive end. He's a player with good speed and quickness and he can play in space."

Best of all with Brown is that he carries a 3.9 GPA.

"I think I have good versatility," Brown said. "I play middle linebacker but I can go down and play defensive end. I can be an outside linebacker in college. We play a 3-3 so it's a little different. Honestly, I feel like I can adapt to any defense."
