BEAVERTON, Ore. — Coming from one of the premier high-school football programs in the Volunteer State, Derek Barnett entered the recruiting process with plenty of knowledge from former teammates iike Jalen Ramsey, Graham Shuler and Max Staver.

Among the FOX Sports NEXT and Scout three-star's list of favorite schools are Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. He has plans to return to a handful of college campuses before his final year at Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy gets underway.

"I'm going to start winding it down, starting focusing on my season at Brentwood Academy and getting ready to win a state championship with them," the No. 35 defensive end in the country said from The Opening.

In 2012, the 6-foot-3, 281-pounder totaled 26 tackles, 22 assists, 5.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown. That production earned him the TSSAA Mr. Football Division II-AA lineman award.
