For JUCO transfer, Michael Lasker, the start of Syracuse training camp is a new chapter in his football career.
"I'm feeling good," Lasker said. "I'm excited about it. I have been working hard in the offseason. When I arrived here [on June 28], I thought I was prepared for camp."
Since the offensive lineman was unable to work out with the team during spring ball, Lasker said he did a lot of core work and focused on his footwork and individual-type drills throughout those months.
Head coach Scott Schafer and the rest of the coaching staff are excited to see what Lasker can do on the field this season given his exceptional athleticism as a pass blocker and going against the run.
At Riverside City College (CA), Lasker was named to the 2012 Southern California Football Association Second Team Offense selection and helped lead his team a 9-2 record.
The transition from the West Coast to the East Coast for the California native has been somewhat different, especially when it comes to experiencing all four seasons.
"I'm not prepared at the moment," Lasker said laughing about his first snow this winter. "I want to go to the mall and get some things. Hopefully, my parents will send me some stuff."
He continued, "Another big transition is time. It feels like the days are so much longer on the East Coast. Everything else is like the same. "
Lasker also noted how extremely friendly the people are here, stating that whenever he walked into the grocery store, Syracuse fans would wish him well and say, "good luck" on the upcoming season.
Academics were also atop his priorities when it comes to life after football.
"It's humbling to actually be here," he said "I came here for academics, too, to get a degree. That was really important for me and my family. It's it a big opportunity for me."
Projected to push for time at tackle, Lasker could challenge Ivan Foy for starters minutes at the position.
"I'm excited to get on the field and show the coaches what I can do," he said. "I've been working hard. It's my time to shine. As a team, we are going to be hard working, just come out there and be ready to go. As far as myself, whether I'm starting or not starting, I'm going to be prepared when my name is called."
