Copeland Talks Return Visit to MSU

Following another big performance Friday night future Spartan Vayante Copeland made his way to East Lansing for the Spartans battle with Youngstown State. We caught up with Copeland about his latest campus visit and more.

Friday night found Dayton (Ohio) Thurgood Marshall and future Michigan State Spartan defensive back Vayante Copeland helping the Cougars to a 34-14 over Kettering (Ohio) Alter.

How did Copeland perform this week?

"I'm not sure about the exact numbers," said Copeland. "But I had between a 180 to 200 yards rushing with a touchdown and recorded seven tackles on defense along with three pass break-ups rush 7 tackles 3 pass breakups."

Following Friday nights big win, Copeland traveled to catch his future teammates in action.

"The trip was real good," he said. "It's always good to get back to the place I'm committed to. This time I took my grandmother and her husband along with my little brother. This way they got a chance to get a feel for the university and see everything. I'll be taking my mother up for the Michigan game because she had to work this weekend."

One thing Copeland made sure to do was spend time with his main recruiter and future position coach Harlon Barnett.

"I spent a lot of time with coach Barnett after the game," said Copeland. "I also spoke with coach Dantonio for a few minutes, but he spent more time with my grandmother."

Throughout the game Copeland paid close attention to watch the Spartans defense, especially the play of the secondary.

"The defense just flies around and they stop a lot of points and score some points," he said. "They play hard and play together and make sure after every play they are cheering and making sure everybody is alright and focused.

"The defensive backs really step up and they know how to hit. I was watching R.J. Williamson a hundred percent of the time because he's young and from my hometown. He really comes hard and hits."

With a bye week this coming weekend, Copeland and his teammates will get ready for a major battle with Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods the following Thursday night that will be televised on FOX Sports Ohio.

Spartan Digest will be on hand for the game and would not be surprised if one of the Spartans coaching staff also attends to catch Copeland and target Daniel Cage in action.
