The World Cup is just a couple of weeks away, and big news out of the US camp this week. National manager Jurgen Klinsmann announced the 23 men that will make up the red, white and blue this summer in Brazil; however the story is not about who made the cut, but who was left out.
Unless you were living under a rock for the last few days you probably heard, US veteran, midfielder Landon Donovan did make the cut and will not travel with the team to Brazil for the World Cup.
Donovan, who is the US all-time leading scorer and has appeared in most World Cup matches, released a statement on facebook about his omission from the squad.
"It has been an honor and privilege to have represented the US National Team in three World Cups," Donovan writes on the social media site. "I was looking forward to playing in Brazil and, as you can imagine, I am very disappointed with today's decision. Regardless, I will be cheering on my friends and teammates this summer, and I remain committed to helping grow soccer in the US in the years to come. Thanks for all your support.
