Nebraska’s ascension, quiet as it may have been until the end, triggered quite a bit of turbulence in the poll’s Top 10. In addition to Oklahoma (7-1), three other schools – Maryland (7-1), Virginia Tech (7-1) and UCLA (6-1) – suffered their first losses of the season and tumbled out of the top 10.
Another school, Washington State (7-1), ranked No. 11 last week, also suffered its first defeat and dropped four spots in TheInsiders.com poll.
Nebraska (9-0) forged the first outright tie for TheInsiders.com No. 1 by ending Oklahoma’s 20-game win streak. Miami (6-0) kept pace after a 45-3 win over West Virginia on Thursday.
Syracuse (7-2), which dropped Virginia Tech from the unbeaten ranks, joined the top 25, along with Mississippi (6-1) and North Carolina (5-3). Auburn, Fresno State and Colorado left the rankings.
