Sources have recently told us that three
"sleepers" are moving up draft charts.
One lineman getting a lot of play recently is
Gardner-Webb's Richard Williams, a name known to many. Several teams are bringing him into their
camps for individual workouts including the Bears, Panthers and Packers. In fact
the Miami Dolphins have him on their list as one of their "top 20" priorities
for draft weekend and are scheduled to fly Williams in for a reception with
other top prospects high on the Dolphins list, an annual event held by Miami.
A veteran offensive line coach we are friendly
with worked Williams out a few weeks ago and said it was one of the best
sessions he's had with a college prospect in years.
Williams pro-day is next week and will are
curious to see what his numbers are; right now at 335-pounds he's shooting for a
5.25-forty and 40 reps on the bench.
Another that seems to be flying up the charts
is Virginia tight end Chris Luzar. After running a 4.89 at 270-pounds
during the combine he
has many teams excited by his upside potential. He caught the ball well
afterwards and someone made the comment to us that the light "may have
finally gone on" for the former-cavalier. It would not be a surprise
at all if Luzar makes his way into the draft's first day as many view him as a
"late bloomer."
Here's another tight end name for you to
remember; John Cipot of CW Post. At 6'-8'', 275 pounds, the former power-forward
has caught the eye of many teams, specifically Indianapolis, who are looking to him as a
possible replacement for Ken Dilger.
Cipot is huge, but does not lumber around the
field and gets in the middle of the field to make the difficult catch.
At the Senior Bowl we spoke with a scout that loved what he saw from Cipot
during the week of practice at the Cactus Bowl and said several teams
approached him.
Unlikely to be drafted, the Colts hope to sign
him afterwards as a free agent.
