Nation's Top Player Breaks Wrist

LeBron James of Akron (OH) St. Vincent-St Mary, College Basketball News’ top high school player, suffered a wrist injury and could be sidelined for six to eight weeks. The standout junior averaged 28.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.3 steals, while shooting 55.1 percent from field. James led the Irish to a 23-4 mark and they finished runner-up for the Ohio state title. James had been trying to win his third straight Ohio State championship.

James, playing for the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars, suffered the injury after stealing the ball against the Rising Stars (based out of the Chicago suburbs) in the Mac Irvin adidas Basketball Classic. He went up for a dunk near the free throw line and Rising Star forward C.J. Walleck attempted to draw a charge. James jumped over him and Walleck turned to the side and James fell hard to the floor, landing on his wrist.

He laid on the floor for ten minutes and then went to a private room where he applied ice to the wirst. The game was called with 11:19 to go as the Shooting Stars led 51-22. James had scored 17 points in the game.

They had previously won their opening game over Team Minnesota 68-64 as James scored 16 points and ten assists. James seemed willing to be a playmaker and did not put out a 100 percent effort. However, he turned up the level of his game whenever he needed to as he made several flashy passes and dunks to excite a large crowd that include NBA players Darius Miles, Quentin Richardson, DeSagana Diop and Eddy Curry, NBA scouts, NBA agents and draft hopefuls Jared Jeffries, Lenny Cooke, Smush Parker and Janeero Pargo.

His broken left wirst will likely force him to miss the adidas ABCD Camp in Teaneck, New Jersey July 7-12 and the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas July 22-27
