Bill Joe Hobert completed 25 of 48 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns as the ’91 Washington Huskies cruised past the ’02 Miami Hurricanes in the quarterfinals of the Scout.com/WhatIfSports Tournament of Champions by a score of 24-10.

The ’91 Huskies opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter when Orlando McKay caught a 6-yd touchdown pass from Billy Joe Hobert. The 14-play, 70-yard drive was classic Husky football, with the Huskies grinding out 11 of the 14 plays on the ground. The drive was a preview of what the '02
Miami
squad was in for all game long.
The Husky defense pressured an ineffective
Ken Dorsey
for four long quarters and sacked him 6 times, twice by Louis Jones. Dorsey completed 27 of 47 pass attempts for a meager 237 yards with a touchdown and interception. Couple that with star running back
Clinton Portis
’ 32 carries for 93 yards (2.9 yards per carry) and the ’02 Miami offense had a recipe for disaster.
The star studded Miami defense held up a lot better though. They sacked Hobert 5 times and had 3 interceptions but it was Hobert who had the final laugh.
To go with the McKay touchdown, Hobert also found Mario Bailey late in the 2nd for a score to make the halftime lead 14-3. Finally, to top things off, he connected with Beno Bryant in the 4th for a 35-yard completion that sealed the deal.
The Scout.com/WhatIfSports player of the game award went to Husky running back Beno Bryant. Bryant finished the game with 148 yards rushing on 37 carries and also caught 3 balls for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Up next for the ’91 Huskies will be the winner of tomorrow’s showdown between the ’04
USC
Trojans and the ’05
Texas
Longhorns. Both teams high powered offenses will be a great test for the Huskies. Stay Tuned!
