'05 Texas Comes From Behind For Victory

Vince Young’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Billy Pittman with 1:52 remaining lifted the ’05 Texas Longhorns to a 19-16 victory over the ’91 Washington Huskies. With the victory the ’05 Longhorns now have a date with the ’96 Florida Gators in the finals of the Scout.com/WhatIfSports Tournament of Champions.

After a solid first half on both sides of the ball, it appeard as the '91 Huskies were going to run away with this one. Travis Hanson connected on three short field goals (25,32,25) and Billy Joe Hobert connected with Orlando McKay on a 16-yard pass which gave the '91 Huskies a 16-3 halftime lead. However, their luck would change.
The second half was all '05
Texas
. Along with the game winning Pittman touchdown catch, kicker
David Pino
added 3 field goals (42,36,36) for the Longhorns. The defense solved the Huskies' air attack and running game, holding them scoreless for the rest of the game.
The '91 Huskies were once again led by the ground game of Beno Bryant. Bryant carried the ball 31 times for a game high 203 yards. However, Bryant was unable to find the endzone when the '91 Huskies were knocking on the at door three times in the first half. Billy Joe Hobert finished the game 24 of 48 for 262 yards (1 TD, 1 INT).
The ground game of '05 Longhorns was once again their bread and butter. Collectively they ran the ball 52 times for 177 yards (3.4 ypc) against a tough Husky defense. Player of the game,
Vince Young
, was 7 of 16 for 156 yards and 1 TD in the air and rushed for 75 yards on 10 carries.
Up next for the '05 Longhorns will be a rendevous with the '96
