The Minnesota high school basketball season tipped off Thursday with three metro area teams facing off. Friday saw more teams in action with several of the top local talent making their 2009-10 debut. The following is a look at some of the top performers from Friday's games.
Junior
Joe Coleman
scored 43 points in Hopkins' 102-87 win over Minneapolis Henry. He attended Minnesota's Tubby Tip-Off and has received a scholarship offer from Santa Clara. Fellow junior
Marvin Singleton
had 23 points and senior
D.J. Peterson
chipped in with 15. Ninth grader Riley Dearring, who was attracted plenty of early interest, had four points off the bench. Assistant coach Vince Taylor was in attendance.
Henry was led by guards Louis Cox and Jordan Hughes, with 32 and 24 points, respectively.
Junior
Marquel Curtis
scored a game-high 19 points to lead Robbinsdale Armstrong in a 58-48 win over Mounds View. Curtis, who plays for 43 Hoops, has gotten mid major recruiting interest.
Benilde-St. Margaret's, who is ranked #1 in Class AAA, was led by senior forward Peter Crawford with 17 points and sophomore guard Isaiah Zierden added 16. Minnesota assistant Ron Jirsa was in the crowd.
Chaska, which is ranked #6 in Class AAAA, was led by junior forwards
Ross Travis
with 19 points and
Jake White
, who had eleven in a 79-64 win over Rochester Mayo. Travis has six scholarship offers and White recently picked up an offer from
Wichita State
. Junior guard Max Watts had a game-high 25.
North Dakota State signee Marshall Bjorklund had 29 to pace Sibley East to a 70-46 win over Howard Lake Waverly.
