Find out how the Houston Texans rated against the St. Louis Rams.
REPORT CARD VS. RAMS
PASSING OFFENSE: A-minus --
Matt Schaub
was 28-of-40 for 367 yards and a touchdown. He had another touchdown pass dropped. He wasn't sacked, and he didn't throw an interception. He did lose a fumble on a sneak. Schaub was almost flawless in running an offense that had no running game.
Andre Johnson
had nine catches for 196 yards.
Kevin Walter
had a 3-yard touchdown catch.
RUSHING OFFENSE: F --
Playing against a defense that had allowed 146 yards rushing and 4.5 yards a carry, the Texans reached a new low -- 52 yards and a 2.2-yard average. Rookie
Arian Foster
was supposed to get 20 touches, but he fumbled after a 13-yard catch on the first series and didn't play running back again.
Ryan Moats
13 for 46) and
Chris Brown
(three for 2) were terrible.
PASS DEFENSE: B-minus --
The Texans played against a third-team quarterback, undrafted rookie
Keith Null
. He threw a touchdown pass. They sacked him three times and hit him seven more times. He was 18-of-27 for 183 yards and one interception.
RUSH DEFENSE: B-minus --
The Texans limited
Steven Jackson
, the league's second-leading rusher to 82 yards on 20 carries. They kept him out of the end zone. He had eight carries for no gain or negative yardage. He had four carries for 1 yard.
SPECIAL TEAMS: C --
Kris Brown
kicked three short field goals.
Matt Turk
punted two times for a 42.5 average. Kickoff coverage was poor. Punt coverage was good. Returns were mediocre.
COACHING: C --
The Texans were sloppy from the first series when Arian Foster fumbled on the Rams' 8.
Joel Dreessen
dropped a touchdown pass. That's 10 or 14 points they gave away. Still, they were fortunate to win ugly, and when you're the Texans, old ugly is better than old nothing.
