Kelly: I think We'll be Pretty Good this Year

Chip Kelly was the last man on the podium today at the Pacific-10 Conference Football Media Day and likely everyone was tired out as he only had to spend 10 minutes answering questions. Kelly, along with senior defensive tackle Brandon Bair, answered a number of questions and Kelly started things off by saying of his team, "I think we'll be pretty good this year."

One of the first questions asked Chip Kelly was about the competition for the starting job at quarterback. Kelly indicated that the job will go to either Nathan Costa or Darron Thomas and that the coaches intend to have a starter named by the the end of fall camp.

Oregon officially begins fall camp on August 9th, which will consist of 19 sessions. Camp will conclude on August 24th when the Ducks commence preparation for the season's opening game at home against New Mexico on Sept. 4th.

Kelly, when talking about the quarterback position, made it clear that he intended on either Costa or Thomas to start and ruled out any possibility that the Ducks would play a two-quarterback offense. Pointing out that failing to name a starter would mean that the coaching staff did not have enough confidence in either player, Kelly mentioned that by game time either Costa or Thomas would be the team on-field leader.

Earlier in the day, the conference released its pre-season media poll and the Ducks are favored to repeat as conference champions. Oregon just nosed out USC receiving 15 to USC's 12 for first place votes. Oregon State was tabbed third with three votes. Stanford, Arizona, Washington, California, UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State round out the pundit's picks.
