DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior Kyle Singler underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday afternoon at the Duke University Medical Center.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Dean Taylor and Singler is expected to make a full recovery before the start of practice on Oct. 15.

“Kyle had some discomfort in his knee following a very busy summer so we elected to go in and clean it up prior to the start of the season,” said Duke associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski. “By all accounts, today’s surgery was a success and Kyle will be back at full strength before the start of practice.”

Singler, a 2011 National Player of the Year candidate, averaged 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds a year ago while leading Duke to the NCAA Championship, its second straight ACC Tournament title and a 35-5 record overall. The Medford, Ore., native earned first team All-ACC accolades as well as NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and ACC MVP honors as a junior. Singler ranks 18th all-time at Duke with 1,767 points and is averaging 15.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 111 career games (110 starts).

Duke opens the 2010-11 campaign on Oct. 15 with Countdown to Craziness. Following exhibition games with St. Augustine’s (Oct. 23) and Cal Poly Pomona (Nov. 4), the Blue Devils begin the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 14 against Princeton in the opening round of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.
