SCOUT is a digital media network focused primarily on male enthusiasts. Owned by New York-based private equity fund Pilot Group, SCOUT operates web, print and television properties in categories including NFL, college football, basketball, baseball, outdoor enthusiast sports such as hunting and fishing, as well as other enthusiast-based channels.

Brands include North American Hunter, North American Fisherman, and Golf Partners - as well as partnerships with Major League Baseball and The History Channel. SCOUT's multi-platform delivery includes cable television shows, dozens of national enthusiast brands, over 300 web destinations, tens of thousands of professionally produced videos, tens of millions in subscription and advertising revenue, a 21-million-deep customer list and highly engaged online niche communities currently purchasing over $50 million in merchandise.


Management Team


James Heckman, CEO

Nearly three decades of operating experience in digital media and technology, most recently, as Global Media strategy head for Yahoo, overseeing all revenue and growth strategy for the company.  Earlier, James served as Chief Strategy Officer for Fox/NewsCorp's digital media network, where he led dramatic growth in digital revenue, and architected the pivotal $900MM partnership between MySpace and Google. James also founded several media start-ups including Scout.com, acquired by Fox/NewsCorp;  Rivals.com, acquired by Yahoo; NFL Exclusive (NFL joint venture), acquired by Royale Publishing; and most recently, digital ad network 5to1.com, acquired by Yahoo. Education: BA Communications, University of Washington.

Mark Stieglitz, Chief Operating Officer

Mark's career spans 20 years as an Internet product pioneer and expert network integrator. Various product roles at Yahoo!; COO at 5to1; GM at Zazzle, including construction of its premium seller network; VP/Products, Fox Interactive (led integration of MySpace/Google partnership); VP/GM IGN, the leading network for gaming enthusiasts; and various business and technology roles at Oracle and IBM. Education: BS Computer Science, Long Beach State.

Bill Sornsin, Chief Technology Officer

Previously VP Engineering & Operations, Fox Interactive Media (led Scout product and operations, and MySpace & Fox Sports integration); co-founder/CTO/COO of both Scout.com and Rivals.com; 8 years at Microsoft including Group Manager, MSN Core Technology and Product Manager, Microsoft Exchange. Education: BS Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Iowa; MBA, Anderson School, UCLA.

Steven Rindner, Chief Strategy Officer

Steven has more than 20 years of experience in marketing, media, and technology industries, including private equity for previous 10 years launching and accelerating growth at startups and multi-national businesses (Louis-Dreyfus). Formerly SVP Strategic Alliances at Citigroup, developing partnerships to create new revenue streams and engaging customers online. As SVP CorpDev at AOL, executed strategies for content, website functionality, advertising, marketing, merchandising and subscriber acquisition. Previously practiced corporate law with Shearman & Sterling and Fried Frank.

Ben Joldersma, Chief Product Officer

Google (geo products); Yahoo!; Chief Architect, 5to1; consultant for Internet companies including aQuantive and Serena Software; lead developer at Rivals.com, Architect, Scout.com. Ben studied Computer Science at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.
