Senior Designer

Job Description:

Are you an experienced UI Designer with a love of sports, great user interfaces and usable design? Are you looking for a position in which you can make a major impact? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then Scout.com is the place for you. We are a leading online sports property that features in depth team coverage, expert analysis, active online communities and a business driven both by subscription and media revenue streams. You will work directly with the product team on the look-and-feel, information flow, and visual design of our network sites. You will be tasked with making the designs usable and useful to complete computer novices. Some of your responsibilities will include creating wireframes and user flows, designing all visuals elements and working closely with our Front End Developer to implement the designs. On occasion, you will also assist in the usability testing of your designs.

We are looking for designers who:

  • Simplify the presentation of data
  • Help users accomplish their goals
  • Prefer utility over flashiness, but can still create immersive experiences
  • Enjoy sports and/or statistically driven information media
  • Understand user-centered design principals
  • Possess excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of five years web experience
  • Formal design training with emphasis in user interface/interaction design
  • Strong graphic design and user interface design experience
  • Familiarity and experience working with usability studies
  • Interest in sports
  • Experience working on news and/or media sites
  • Experience with user-centered design
  • Be able to advise on information architecture and user interface considerations
  • An in-depth understanding of XHTML, CSS and the capabilities of Web browsers is essential
  • Familiarity with web-based community features such as forums, content management systems, chat, and Web 2.0 trends overall.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator required (familiarity with Fireworks and Flash a plus)
  • Independent initiative to develop and execute projects while maintaining open communication with product leads
  • Strong portfolio and excellent attitude
