Ohio State Buckeyes head football coach Urban Meyer has been known to coach plenty of great, talented teams. But, with so many questions heading into the 2016 season after a record number of players left early for the NFL Draft following the 2015 college football season, the head coach's time to shine could be this fall.
According to South Point Casino, a Las Vegas oddsmaker, the Buckeyes will be favorites in every B1G game this season. They currently only have the Buckeyes top five games of the conference season. But, if they are projected to win their five toughest conference games, then they will be favored against Rutgers, Indiana, Northwestern, and Maryland. Here are the five games the oddsmaker already have listed for Ohio State:
- October 15: Ohio State (-4) at Wisconsin
- October 22: Ohip State (-9) at Penn State
- November 5: Nebraska vs. Ohio State (-12.5)
- November 19: Ohio State (-4.5) at Michigan State
- November 26: Michigan at Ohio State (-5)
Even with many thinking that the Wolverines will be among the best team's in the country, Vegas still gives the scarlet and gray the advantage in the regular season finale. While this may be due to the game being at Ohio Stadium, the fact that the Buckeyes are five-point favorites over Michigan says a lot about how Vegas views the Wolverines. Ohio State's dominance over that Team Up North could play a key role in the odds too.
Meyer's Buckeyes may have a bunch of new faces in 2016, but their dominance in the Big Ten can (and hopefully will) continue. The biggest question mark on the team's schedule is the third game of the season, September 17 in Norman, Oklahoma against the Oklahoma Sooners. The much anticipated primetime matchup will future two of the best teams in the country with the winner having a front row seat in the chase to make the 2017 College Football Playoffs.
With just six starters returning from last season, Ohio State winning another conference title could be a fatal blow to the hopes and dreams of the rest of the conference. But, Buckeye fans won't mind.
