What It Was Like Growing Up a Cleveland Sports Fan In Small Town O-H-I-O

For some re-living 90's Cleveland Indians teams were just a memory. For someone like me, those 90's teams opened up a whole new world in my Cleveland Sports fanhood.

Growing up in a small town in Wayne County my childhood was filled with going outside shooting hoops late at night in my gravel driveway, throwing baseball in the yard and practicing our "Omar plays" just as Omar Vizquel did for all those years. Those were the days, where a kid could be a kid. Where you really didn't care about the outcome of the game so long as you got to watch your favorite team play.

Well, that didn't last long.

I remember the night well, even at such a young age. I was 10 years old, old enough to tell you each and every players number on the back of their jersey. It was the bottom of the 9th inning, Game 7 of the World Series. I remember looking around, all my cousins, aunts, uncles, siblings, parents etc. Everyone's faces filled with joy and optimism.

I would rather not describe the outcome of that game, but what I can tell you is that when my passion and love for Cleveland Sports truly began. Even though the Cleveland Indians lost that game and the chance to celebrate with my family, the first title in any of their lifetimes, I understood.

My name is Joe Becerra. I grew up in a small town of Creston, Ohio. Many of you have probably never even heard of the town, which is why when someone asks you where you're from, we generally say Wooster, Ohio. And even then people probably do not even know where that is at. I am 30 years old and my wife and I are expecting our first child this summer, so needless to say 2017 is off to a good start for me.

Aside from always wanting to roam center field for the Cleveland Indians, I have always wanted to become a writer. I plan on taking full advantage of what CLE4ME has to offer and really have some fun with this. I will be covering all three Cleveland sports teams and will also dabble into some minor league stuff with the Indians as well.

I am not nearly cool or hip enough to talk culture or do funny podcast's or anything like that. So for me, its all about sitting behind this computer screen and giving you my thoughts. And yes, that was my very bad attempt at humor. Look forward to seeing where this goes. Hope you enjoy!
