New Mexico has a veteran group of players and, like Air Force, goes deep into the bench with 8 players averaging double minutes (as compared to the Falcons with 10 players with double minutes and two more with 8.5mpg each). They will pressure the Falcons on defense, often using full or 3/4 court pressure. They are quick and they are long in the way they play and will attempt to disrupt Air Force in the lane. They play stingy on the offensive end where they will try to exploit the size advantage over the Falcons as did CSU. They are led in the backcourt by Kendall Williams (6'4"/185#/Jr G/13.8ppg/35mpg/41%FG/80%FT/33%3pt), Tony Snell (6'7"/200#/Jr G/11.8ppg/30mpg/40%Fg/83%FT/37%3pt) and Hugh Greenwood (6'3"/205#/So G/7.8ppg/28mpg/5rpg/43%FG/62%FT/36%3pt. Greenwoods numbers do not relect the impact he has had in recent games to include 15pts on 4-5 from the arc in their last game.
NM went big in their last game starting both Alex Kirk at the center (7'0"/250#/So/11ppg/28mpg/7rpg/48%FG/73%Ft/28%#pt) and at forward Cameron Bairstow (6'9"/250#/Jr/8ppg/20mpg/5rpg/45%FG/74%FT) and I would expect them to do the same versus Air Force unless they are worried about AF's cuts and quickness, then they may go with only one big to start. Note the big man Kirk is not afraid to shot outside the lane and has made 8/29 3's this season (as compared to AF's center Taylor Broekhuis (6'10"/220#Sr C/41% 3pt (11-27). Strong play for the Lobo's off the bench include Chad Adams (6'6"/190#/Sr G-F/6ppg/23mpg/4rpg/48%FG/86%FT/48%3pt), Demetrius Walker (6'2"/190#/Jr G/5ppg/16mpg)and Jamal Fenton (5'9"/170#/Sr G/4ppg/15mpg).
5) Maybe the biggest key: Air Force must play their game on not let New Mexico dictate the style of play or the tempo. Keep running the offense. Keep cutting across the lane. Be physical and look for the best shot.
Big week for the Falcons and big weekend in the MWC.
