Tide Men's Golf Finishes Fourth
Alabama finished 12 strokes behind Florida, which shot 5-over-par 285 in the final round to claim the team title at 5-over-par 845. Oklahoma State and Augusta State tied for second place at 12-over-par 852, while Texas finished fifth at 18-over-par 858.
"I was proud of a lot of things, but I also think we have a lot of work to do," Alabama Coach Jay Seawell said. "We were off in some areas, that if you are going to win, we have to get better at. I was proud of how the young guys handled a great test of golf, but we have to learn to get four scores every day."
Junior Bud Cauley carded a 3-over-par 73 in the final round to finish tied for third place at 1-under-par 209. It was Cauley's 10th career top-five finish, following a fifth-place showing at last week's Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Jacksonville Fla., native finished five shots back of Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein, who took home medalist honors with an even-par 70 in the final round to finish 6-under-par 204.
The Alabama freshman duo of Bobby Wyatt and Cory Whitsett both finished inside the top-20 of the tournament that featured one of the deepest fields of the year. Wyatt shot 2-over-par 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 16th place at 4-over-par 214, while Whitsett shot 5-over-par 75 to finish tied for 20th place at 5-over-par 215.
Sophomore Scott Strohmeyer carded his best round of the week on Sunday with a 1-over-par 71 after shooting 6-over in each of the first two rounds. Junior Hunter Hamrick also shot his best round of the tournament in the final round with a 3-over-par 73 following a pair of 75s in the first two rounds. Strohmeyer and Hamrick finished tied for 51st at 13-over-par 223.
Alabama takes the next two and half weeks off before hosting the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Club in Birmingham October 11-12.
