Honor For Barron, Alabama From Lott
Alabama will receive $1,000 for its general scholarship fund and a new HP laptop for the athletic department's academic services.
Mark Barron, a native of Mobile, recorded a team-high 11 tackles, including nine solo stops, a sack (-9) and two pass breakups against the No. 7-ranked Gators in Tuscaloosa.
Barron anchors a defense that leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 9.0 points per game, and a secondary that has picked off the second-most passes in the nation with 11. Alabama ranks third nationally in pass efficiency defense (90.72) and 19th against the run (101.00 ypg).
Barron leads the Tide with 31 tackles and two sacks in five games this season. He has intercepted one pass, recorded four pass breakups, registered one quarterback hurry and forced a fumble.
Named after NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, the Lott Trophy is awarded to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Now in its sixth year, the Lott Trophy is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. Alabama's DeMeco Ryans won the award in 2005 and Rolando McClain was a finalist last season.
