Record Round Has Alabama In First
The 11-under-par 277 breaks the Alabama record for total strokes in a round and number of strokes under par in a round. The previous records were 278 (6-under) in last year's SEC Championship and a 9-under (279) at the 2008 Crimson Tide Classic.
Junior Brooke Pancake shot a 7-under-par 65 to end the first round alone in first place and build a two-stroke lead over Tulane's Janine Fellows and LSU's Megan McChrystal. Pancake carded eight birdies and one bogey en route to her second 65 of the season and only the fourth in school history. The 7-under-par 65 ties the school record.
Senior Camilla Lennarth is tied for fifth after a 3-under-par 69. She birdied five holes in the round, but bogeyed twice to finish the first round four shots back of Pancake.
Sophomore Jennifer Kirby carded a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for 13th place, while freshman Stephanie Meadow shot an even-par 72 and enters the second round tied for 24th place.
Senior Courtney Harter shot a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 68th place.
LSU is in second place at 3-under-par 285, followed by Duke and Florida at even-par 288. Tulane and Michigan State round out the top five at 1-over-par 289.
