Alabama Swimmers Upset Auburn

In recent years, Auburn has been known primarily in athletics for its outstanding swimming and diving teams. For Alabama to beat Auburn in swimming would be like Auburn beating Alabama in gymnastics.

On a rather bleak day for Crimson Tide athletics, the Alabama men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2010-11 season by beating Auburn 133-110 Saturday. Bama won eight of nine individual swimming events to pull off victory.

The Crimson Tide women, also in their season opener, fell to the Tigers 169-74.

After finishing second in the 200 medley relay by nine-hundredths of a second, Alabama's men went on to win nine of the next 10 races including the 800 freestyle relay to close out the meet.

Alabama returns to action Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. in the Alabama Aquatic Center when the LSU Tigers come to town.
