Tide Women Golfers Break Day-Old Mark

The Alabama women's golf team shot a school-record 14-under-par 274 in the second round to take a commanding lead at the Tar Heel Invitational Saturday at the par-72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. Alabama's team total of 551 is 15 shots ahead of second-place Duke at 566. LSU is third at 570.

It marked the second consecutive day for Alabama to post a record round, following the 11-under-par 277 that the team shot on Friday. Those two rounds set the school record for total strokes in a round and number of strokes under par in a round. The previous records were 278 (6-under) in last year's SEC Championship and a 9-under (279) at the 2008 Crimson Tide Classic.

Senior Camilla Lennarth led Alabama on Saturday with a 5-under par 67 while junior Brooke Pancake followed up her opening-round 65 with a 69 to hold the medalist lead at 10-under par 134. Sophomore Jennifer Kirby fired a 68 on Saturday while freshman Stephanie Meadow shot 70 with senior Courtney Harter shooting 74.

Pancake and Lennarth lead a tight battle for medalist honors with Pancake standing at 134 (65-69) with Lennarth second at 136 (69-67). Kirby is tied for fifth at 139 (71-68).
