Fourth-Ranked Tide Concludes Fall Play
The three-round event continues Monday and concludes Tuesday. It is the final fall tournament for the Alabama men, who have not finished outside the top four in any of their events this season, including a win at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate.
Crimson Tide junior Bud Cauley will look to defend his individual title at Isleworth after capturing medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 211 (-5) last year. Cauley is currently ranked eighth nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and is second on the team with a 70.0 scoring average over nine rounds this year.
The Crimson Tide is coming off a third-place finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate two weeks ago.
Freshman Bobby Wyatt turned in the best finish of his young career with a tie for second place at 6-under-par 204 at the JPNI while Cauley finished just outside the top five in seventh at 1-under-par 209. Wyatt leads the team with a 69.87 scoring average while ranking seventh in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
Junior Hunter Hamrick, true freshman Cory Whitsett and sophomore Scott Strohmeyer round out the Alabama lineup in Windermere.
This year's Isleworth Collegiate Invitational field will feature five of the nation's top-10 teams, according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. They include No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Florida, No. 6 Texas and No. 9 LSU along with the Crimson Tide. Rounding out the field will be No. 11 Georgia, No. 18 Texas Tech, Arizona, Central Florida, Ohio State, SMU, Stanford, Tennessee, TCU and Vanderbilt.
Isleworth's golf course is a par-72, 7,544-yard championship course originally designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, later redesigned and enhanced by Steve Smyers.
