Under Armour: DePriest ready for early start

Trey DePriest, five-star linebacker from Springfield, Ohio, is one of the top overall recruits in the Under Armour All-America game in Orlando. He has also been one of the best players in the first two days of practice. The Tide commitment talked about the week, enrolling early in Tuscaloosa, and recruiting other players.

"Practice has been good," said Trey DePriest. "The Alabama boys have seven picks in two days out here. We are getting after it. It's been fun to be around all this great competition."

Depriest is bonding with future teammates and talking up the Tide with other players in Orlando.

"Vinnie [Sunseri] and I are real close," he said. "We know each other well. I have just started talking to Ha-Ha [Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix] and Bradley Sylve. We are trying to get big [Jadeveon] Clowney. Our defense would be real nasty with him. I am not really acting like a recruiter, but I am telling him what's real."

DePriest will enroll at the University of Alabama next week.

"It's very exciting to get there early," said DePriest. "Who wouldn't want to play as a freshman. A lot of people don't have the opportunity to do it. I can get an early start on learning the system and defense.

"Alabama recruited me to play inside linebacker. They want me to come in and be a leader on the defense. They want me to be able make the play calls and all the checks."

DePriest caught another glimpse of the Tide in action in the Capital One Bowl.

"I got a chance to see the second half and then the highlights of the game," he said. "Alabama put it on them. That's just how it is."

DePriest talked about reasons for his commitment to Alabama.

"I just love it there," he said. "That is where I felt the most comfortable. They love you, but it's a different type of love. That's just where I felt like I needed to go. I think the future is very bright down there."

DePriest plans to room with Vinnie Sunseri when two begin classes next week in Tuscaloosa.
