Alabama Softball Gets Past UAB 3-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 2 ranked Alabama softball team scored three runs in the seventh inning and used a one-hit gem from senior Kelsi Dunne to down UAB, 3-0 Tuesday night. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 11-0 on the season.

On her birthday, Alabama freshman Ryan Iamurri was the one giving the gift as she slapped in what proved to be the winning run, when she plated junior Jazlyn Lunceford on a grounder to short in the top of the seventh inning.

Sophomore Courtney Conley then swiped home after she eluded a pickoff attempt and then Iamurri was able to complete the scoring, crossing the plate after a wild pitch.

Dunne was too much for the Blazers as she has grown a liking to the UAB circle. After a 17 strikeout performance last season in Birmingham, she followed it up with a 14 punchout, complete game effort Tuesday night. After the win, the right-hander improves to 6-0 on the season.

Lunceford started off the rally in the final frame as she drove a liner off the wall in left-center. She was then bunted over to third by junior Kendall Dawson and brought home by Iamurri.

Alabama will continue its two-week road trip as it will head to Tampa, Fla., to play five more games over the weekend. The Tide will participate in the USF Fairfield Inn and Suites Tournament, beginning on Friday. Alabama will open the tournament against Illinois State at 11:30 a.m. CST.
