Tide Women's Golf Sixth In Tournament
Alabama shot 7-over-par 295, seven shots back of tournament host Tulane, who carded an even-par round of 288. No. 6 Duke is in second place at 2-over-par 290 with fourth-ranked LSU third at 3-over-par 291. Arizona State is fourth at 5-over 293 with Vanderbilt at 6-over par in fifth.
The Blue Devils' Laetitia Beck leads individually after a 6-under-par 66. Two LSU golfers, Megan McChrystal and Jacqueline Hedwall, are tied for second with opening-round 69s.
Freshman Stephanie Meadow, who captured her first collegiate win the last time out in Puerto Rico, paced the Tide on Sunday with an even-par round of 72. She is tied for 11th place after a steady round that saw her post three birdies and three bogeys.
Sophomore Jennifer Kirby and junior Brooke Pancake were two shots back at 2-over-par 74 and tied for 24th position. Kirby bogeyed three-of-six holes in the middle of her round but got a shot back on the par-3 12th with a birdie. Pancake birdied the par-3 third hole but made bogeys at the eighth, 10th and 18th holes to close with a 74.
Junior Camilla Lennarth shot 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 33rd position. Senior Courtney Harter carded an 86 in round one while true freshman Hannah Collier competed as an individual and shot 10-over 82.
Along with LSU, Vanderbilt and Alabama, who finished round one among the top six teams, five other SEC teams were in the field with Florida tied for eighth, Tennessee in 10th, Auburn tied for 11th, Mississippi 14th and Kentucky 15th. The nation's second-ranked team, Southern California, is two shots back of Alabama in seventh place.
The Crimson Tide will play round two with host Tulane and SEC foe Vanderbilt and is scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. Monday.
