Traina Hits, Hurls Tide Softball Win

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Alabama freshman Jackie Traina got the job done at the plate and in the circle to lead the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide softball team to a 4-0 win over Virginia, Sunday morning at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Alabama wrapped up the Citrus Classic with a 4-1 record at the tournament and improved to 20-1 on the season.

Alabama freshman Jackie Traina improves to 8-0 in the circle after pitching five innings while allowing just two hits and striking out seven. Senior Kelsi Dunne closed out the game with two perfect innings of relief.

Traina batted a perfect 3-for-3, scored a run and drove in four. Fellow freshman Ryan Iamurri collected two hits while sophomore Kayla Braud tallied a hit and scored a run.

Traina again got Alabama an early cushion as she ripped a two-run double to the wall in right-center to open the first inning. The freshman took a 3-2 pitch the other way to plate Braud and junior Jennifer Fenton.

Traina struck again as she tattooed her 10th home run of the season with a lined shot over the wall in left. The home run extended the Alabama lead to 4-0 as Fenton was brought home on the blast in the third inning.

Braud finished off the Citrus Classic with a .643 average, adding nine hits and seven RBI. Traina was 3-0 in the circle and batted .417 with two home runs and seven RBI.

Alabama will cap off its road trip with a single game in Atlanta, Ga., when the Tide faces Georgia Tech, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST (6 p.m. central).
