Gymnasts Top LSU On Senior Night

The No. 2 ranked Alabama gymnastics closed out its regular-season with a 196.95-194.750 win over No. 22 LSU. It marked the Crimson Tide's fifth win in a row and sixth 196.8-plus score of the season. Freshman Sarah DeMeo won the all-around with a career-best 39.450 followed by senior Kayla Hoffman's second place 39.000.

Alabama got off to a roaring start with a season-best 49.525 on the vault led by a season-best 9.95 from Hoffman and a career-best 9.975 from freshman Diandra Milliner. The Tide kept things rolling on the uneven bars, tying its second highest score of the season, a 49.325, behind a 9.9 from sophomore Ashley Sledge and a 9.925 from junior Geralen Stack-Eaton.

The Tide had to count a fall in its total for the first time in five meets, when two Tide gymnasts came off the balance beam. DeMeo helped the Tide come back strong on the beam with a career-best 9.950, pushing UA to a 48.625. Alabama finished off with a season-best 49.475 on the floor exercise, led by 9.925s from Milliner and Hoffman.

Hoffman came off the floor to a standing ovation on Senior Night and was joined by fellow seniors Alyssa Chapman and Megan Mashburn at the center of the floor, waving goodbye to a cheering home crowd.

The Tide returns to action next Saturday at the SEC Championships held in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center.
