Tide Basketball Makes Women's NIT
"We are extremely excited about being selected to participate in the Women's National Invitation Tournament," Alabama Coach Wendell Hudson said. "This is a great opportunity for the team, especially for our seniors, who will be taking part in a postseason past the SEC Tournament for the first time in their careers."
The Crimson Tide will be making its first tournament appearance since the 2001-02 season. Alabama enters the tournament with a 16-14 record marking its first winning season since 2002. The Tide won five of its last seven regular-season games, including a 92-point performance at Arkansas. Memphis currently stands at 21-12 overall while posting an 8-8 record in league play. Most recently, the Tigers made a run to the Conference USA semifinals before falling to the eventual champions, UCF.
Alabama is making its fourth appearance in the WNIT since its inception in 1998. The Tide is 3-3 all-time in the tournament where it advanced to the quarterfinals in 2002.
The winner of Thursday's contest will take on either Creighton or Northwestern in a date to be determined.
