Dunne's No-Hitter Gives Tide Sweep
Alabama senior Kelsi Dunne struck out 10 and walked two in her second no-hitter of the season. The senior no-hit the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Feb. 12. With the win, the right-hander improves to 18-1 on the year.
Senior Whitney Larsen collected two hits and drove in the lone run for the Tide. Larsen now has 41 RBI on the season.
Alabama scored its only run in the contest in the first inning with the use of the short game. A leadoff walk to sophomore Kayla Braud got things going and then a stolen base led to a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by junior Jennifer Fenton. Larsen then handled the rest as she singled through the left side to bring in Braud.
Junior Jazlyn Lunceford and freshman Kaila Hunt led Alabama at the plate over the series with identical .440 averages. Hunt added two home runs while Larsen batted .400 with a team-high five RBI.
Dunne collected two wins and struck out 22 in 14 innings. She allowed only two hits on the weekend and held the Gamecocks to a .047 batting average.
Alabama will remain on the road as it will head to Baton Rouge to face LSU in a three-game conference series. The first game of the three-game set will begin on Friday with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. CDT.
