Tide Softball Falls In 14 Innings At LSU
Young tallied both RBI for LSU in the contest as she opened the scoring with a double to left-center in the sixth inning to score Juliana Santos. Young then led off the 14th inning with a solo-shot on a 2-2 pitch to hand the Tigers the dramatic win.
Freshman Jackie Traina (14-2) was tagged with loss after allowing one run on three hits while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
Senior Kelsi Dunne started the game for Alabama and allowed one run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out eight and walked two.
LSU hurler Brittany Mack (9-3) went the distance for the Tigers. She threw 234 pitches and allowed eight hits and just one run while striking out 14 in the 14 inning victory.
Alabama extended the game by scoring a run in the seventh inning. Junior Cassie Reilly-Boccia hit a sac-fly to left to plate sophomore Kayla Braud from third with the bases loaded. The Tide could not muster another though as it left 16 runners on base.
Senior Whitney Larsen led the Tide at the plate with three hits. Braud collected two hits and stole her 42nd base of the season.
Alabama will look to even the series Saturday with another 6 p.m. first pitch at Tiger Park.
