Softball Falls Again In Extra Innings
Young, the hero for LSU (24-12, 7-6 SEC) in the 14-inning game on Friday night did it again in the first back-to-back extra inning game for Alabama since 2008. Ashley Langoni got things going for the Tigers in the 10th when she singled to right-center. Young did the rest as she took a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right-center to hand the Tigers the series victory.
LSU scored an unearned run in the second inning on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch that scored Young. Alabama once again fought back with two outs in the seventh inning.
Junior Amanda Locke took a leadoff walk and then was pinch-run for by sophomore Keima Davis. Junior Kendall Dawson then took a pitch to the knee to move Davis over to second. With two outs, sophomore Kayla Braud singled through the right side of the infield to plate Davis from second.
Senior Kelsi Dunne was tagged with the loss (18-2) after allowing three runs – two earned on seven hits in 9 1/3 innings. The senior struck out seven and walked one.
Rachele Fico earned the win for the Tigers (9-8) after tossing 10 innings. The sophomore allowed one run on four hits and struck out 11 while walking five.
Alabama will wrap up the series against LSU on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Tiger Park. The series finale will air on ESPNU with Beth Mowins and Jessica Mendoza calling the action.
