Tide Has No-Hitter But LSU Gets Win
Alabama threw a no-hitter and lost for just the second time in the history of the program as Stephanie VanBrakle was tagged with the loss against Georgia Tech in 2004.
Traina (14-3) allowed two unearned runs on no hits and struck out three while walking two in 3 1/3 innings. Dunne tossed 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief, striking out three and walking one.
LSU (25-12, 8-6 SEC) scored both runs in the fourth inning. Ashley Langoni reached on a Jackey Branham error to lead off the frame and then back-to-back hit by pitches loaded the bases for the Tigers. Heidi Pizer then drew a walk to open the scoring and then Jacee Blades grounded out to first to bring in the second run.
It is the first time in school history that Alabama has scored one or less runs in four straight games. The Tide collected two hits on Sunday with Kayla Braud and Jennifer Fenton reaching on infield singles.
Alabama will wrap up its road trip with a mid-week contest at Troy. The two teams will meet on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m., at the Troy Softball Complex.
