Whitsett Top Tide SEC Golf Honoree

Cory Whitsett was top Alabama honoree among this year's Southeastern Conference men's golf awards recipients. Whisett was the SEC Freshman of the Year and selected to the All-SEC first team.

Alabama's Whitsett leads all SEC freshmen in scoring and is fifth overall in the SEC, averaging 70.96 strokes per round. He finished in the top six in five events and claimed medalist honors at the Linger Longer Invitational earlier this year. He is 11th in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Rankings.

Whitsett was joined on the All-SEC first team by Bud Cauley.

Bama's Bobby Wyatt joined Whitsett on the Freshman All-SEC team and Wyatt was second team All-SEC.

Selections were made by SEC golf coaches.

The Crimson Tide of Coach Jay Seawell finished second in the SEC Championship Tournament and will begin play in the NCAA Tournament in mid-May.

Bank Vongvanij of Florida was voted SEC Golfer of the Year and SEC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Gators' Buddy Alexander was voted SEC Coach of the Year. Vanderbilt's Ryan Haselden joined Vongvanij as SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
