Alabama Athletics Aids Relief Fund
Since the deadly tornadoes devastated towns and cities, including Tuscaloosa, members of the Alabama Athletics Department have been participating in numerous relief projects. Those have included charities of Football Coach Nick Saban and Basketball Coach Anthony Grant, as well as hands on participation by coaches, student-athletes, and administrators.
The University of Alabama established the UA Acts of Kindness Fund to assist students, faculty and staff who were impacted by the April 27 tornado.
Crimson Tide Athletics Director Mal Moore made the announcement of the $1 million donation. "After looking into several ways to help during this trying time, we have decided to take funds of our own to assist those members of the UA community who are facing very difficult circumstances," said Moore. "Our ability to help is a direct result of the incredible support of our fan base, whose continued support and enthusiasm makes everything we accomplish possible."
UA President Dr. Robert E. Witt said, "The University of Alabama appreciates this generous gift from our athletics department and their commitment to our students, faculty and staff as the University continues to care for those who were impacted by the storm. We appreciate the generosity and compassion of everyone who has donated to the UA Acts of Kindness Fund, and we thank the UA family for their outpouring of support for the relief efforts of the city we call home. At the end of the day, we are a community united in service to our students, our faculty and staff, our friends and our neighbors. "
The UA Acts of Kindness Fund was established to support an emergency-assistance program for UA employees and students. Contributions are accepted online: http://bit.ly/uaactsofkindness. More information on UA's tornado relief efforts may be found at http://www.ua.edu/tornadorelief/.
Additionally, the athletics department, along with its marketing partner Crimson Tide Sports Marketing, is selling "Together We Stand Strong" tee shirts to help raise funds following the tornado that hit Alabama on April 27. Shirts can be purchased on RollTide.com for $19.95.
All proceeds from the tee shirt sales will be given to the UA Acts of Kindness Fund.
In addition to the proceeds from the tee shirts, 15 per cent of all University of Alabama merchandise sales through RollTide.com on the Team Fan Shop site will be donated to the fund throughout the month of May.
