Alabama Baseball At End Of The Road

The Alabama baseball team of Coach Mitch Gaspard will attempt to hold on to its slim share of the lead in the Southeastern Conference Western Division this weekend when the Crimson Tide makes its final road journey of the season.

Alabama is 13-12 and tied with Arkansas for the lead in the SEC West. That's barely ahead of Auburn (12-12 SEC), and the Crimson Tide will face the Tigers in Auburn for games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First pitch Friday is at 6 p.m. CDT in Plainsman Park. Saturday's game begins at noon and Sunday's contest at 1 p.m.

Alabama is 30-20 overall, Auburn 26-23. The Tigers defeated the Tide in a non-counting game in Montgomery earlier this year.

Alabama will pitch right-hander Nathan Kilcrease (5-4 with a 3.55 earned run average) against Auburn right-hander Luke Jacobs (1-3, 3.18 ERA) on Friday. The Tide will go with left-hander Adam Morgan (5-4, 3.84 ERA) against Tigers right-hander Derek Varnadore (5-2, 3.41) on Saturday. Sunday pitchers have not been announced.

Alabama has won every series against SEC Western Division opponents this year with only Auburn remaining among the West foes.

Next week, Alabama hosts No. 3 ranked South Carolina on Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21, in the final series of the regular season. First pitch for Thursday night's series opener is slated for 6:35 p.m. from Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Game two begins at 6:35 p.m. CT on Friday night, and the series and season finale begins at noon on Saturday. The Saturday game will be regionally televised on CSS.
