No. 2 Seed Alabama Softball Hosts Regional

The roller coaster that has been Alabama softball is on a high this week as the Crimson Tide of Coach Patrick Murphy earned both a high national seed and the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional Tournament, it was announced Sunday.

Alabama will host the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Tournament as the number two seed in the field of 64 for the NCAA tournament.

The Crimson Tide (46-8) will open regional play Friday at Rhoads Stadium against Jackson State (26-20) starting at 6 p.m. CDT. The opening game of the regional gets underway at 3:30 p.m. and will feature Memphis (35-12) and Chattanooga (42-12).

Just over a week ago, Alabama had its back against the wall in Southeastern Conference regular season play, but ended that part of the season with a three-game sweep of Ole Miss to capture the SEC regular season championship.

Bama then went into the SEC Tournament as the No. 1 seed, but fell in the second round to Georgia, a team the Tide had swept in three games in regular season play.

The second-seeded Tide is making its 13th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament under the direction of Coach Patrick Murphy. It is the seventh straight year Alabama has been a host site for an NCAA Regional and the ninth time overall.

The Tide has captured eight NCAA Regional titles (2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010) and boasts a 32-9 record in regional play and a 47-25 in all NCAA tournament games.
