Bama-Kent State Is 11:20 Kickoff

On a day when the temperature was hovering around 100 degrees in Tuscaloosa – but it felt hotter – the good news came that Alabama will open the 2011 season with 100,000 or so huddled in Bryant-Denny Stadium for a middle-of-the-day game.

Alabama didn't pick quite enough of a bad game to avoid broadcast by the Southeastern Conference Network, which picked Bama vs. Kent State for its 11:20 a.m. CDT game on September 3.

A recommendation has been made that The University arrange for cooling misters to be in Bryant-Denny for fans as well as for players.

It will mark the eighth time in the past decade, and the second year in a row, that the Crimson Tide has opened its season at home. Alabama's 2011 season and home opener marks the first meeting between the two teams.

The most notable aspect of the game is that Kent State is the alma mater of Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban.

The league also announced that the SEC Championship game would air on CBS December 3 starting at 3 p.m. CST from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
