Geno Smith takes final visit before decision

Geno Smith, four-star cornerback from Atlanta-St. Pius X, Ga., took an unofficial visit with his parents to the University of Alabama. The Peach State prospect talked with Andrew Bone

"The trip was great," said Geno Smith. "My mom and dad came down with me. It was my dad's first visit to Alabama. My mom goes on all my trips with me.

"My dad enjoyed the trip. He enjoyed meeting Coach Saban, Coach Smart and the rest of the staff. My dad being able to come down there definitely was the main thing that stood out about the trip. I also felt more comfortable down there."

Smith stayed busy throughout his return visit to the Capstone.

"I met with the coaches," he said. "We went to Denny Chimes. We went to Bryant-Denny Stadium. We also took a tour of the Reese Phifer building. We talked defense with the coaches and watched the team in 7-on-7.

"I plan on majoring in Broadcast Journalism. The head guy for the news was there. He talked about how prestigious their program was at Alabama. He said it's a great place to come and is run by professionals.

"I talked to several of the players. I spoke with Josh Chapman, Robert Lester, Dre Kirkpatrick and Malcolm [Faciane]. They were asking if I liked what I saw. I listened to the play calls on the field with Dre.

"Coach Saban talked about the DBs. He talked about how great of an opportunity and situation it was for a young player to come in early to play. They are definitely losing two defensive backs, possibly three if Dre leaves. I know it's a great opportunity."

Smith plans to make his decision within the next few weeks between Alabama and Auburn. He has yet to decide a date for the announcement.
