Travell Dixon schedules official visit
"I was up at Alabama last Sunday until Wednesday," said Travell Dixon. "The visit went really well. It was what I expected. It was my first ever visit there. I knew it would be big-time because it's Alabama. They have so much tradition.
"Once I got there I watched the camp. I spent time with a bunch of the coaches and players on the team. I toured the campus and facilities. That's pretty much everything I did while I was there."
Dixon spent a lot of time with Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
"I talked to coach Saban one-on-one twice during the visit," he said. "We talked a lot throughout the time I was there. He thinks I would be a great fit at Alabama. He said I have real good size for playing cornerback.
"He said he watched my tape personally and likes what I have done on the junior college level. He thinks I can make the transition pretty easily to the college level and he can help me get to the next level.
"That was my first time meeting coach Saban. I have talked to him several times, but on the phone. Nick Saban's name and his history speaks for itself. He sends all of his junior college recruits to the NFL. He is a mastermind coach as far as defensive backs."
Dixon also talked with several Alabama players during his visit.
"I talked to Nico Johnson, Josh Chapman, [Dre] Kirkpatrick, Mark Barron, Robert Lester and the whole secondary," said Dixon. "They were saying it's the place to be for defensive backs. They were talking to me about my size."
Dixon may not name favorites until the fall, but Alabama appears high on the list.
"My overall thoughts about Alabama are very positive," he said. "Everything about Alabama is positive. There is positive energy from everyone there. I really liked that.
"The situation at Alabama and how they develop their junior college players is what stands out to me. I like their NFL style of defense. I am a man corner. That's my specialty. I feel like it would be a great fit."
Dixon visited Alabama and Miami this past month. He scheduled his first official visit to Alabama for the LSU game in November.
