Alabama: Important decisions to watch

The University of Alabama is looking at several players on their recruiting board who have decisions on the horizon. Andrew Bone looks at the prospects on the offensive side of the ball who are expected to pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

Jameis Winston

All eyes are on the Hueytown, Ala. signal caller. Winston will announce his college decision August 3rd on ESPN. The No. 1 player in the state of Alabama has Alabama, Florida State and LSU still in the mix, but most assume it's down to the Tide and Seminoles.

The Elite 11 MVP might take another visit to Tuscaloosa before the announcement. Winston had previously mentioned the coaching staff of his school choice probably already knows his decision. Florida State feels very good about landing his commitment at this time. Is this a slam-dunk for the 'Noles or will Winston go the way of MLB next spring?

Gunner Kiel

The top quarterback took an unofficial visit to Indiana Wednesday with his family. He decided to pull the trigger for the Hoosiers. He committed to the in-state program instead of Alabama.

Chris Black

Aother Tide and Seminoles battle. Black plans to announce his decision August 24. Black visited Tuscaloosa three times with the Tide appearing in the driver's seat following the first visit. Florida State has gained a lot of momentum this summer with their recruitment of the state's top receiver. The Seminoles recently landed a commitment from Marvin Bracy who is similar to Black.

Andrew Jelks

Alabama wants to add depth to the offensive line in this class. Brandon Greene is the only commitment. Jelks has high interest in the Tide after visiting this summer. He also plans on an announcemtn sometime in August. He has trimmed his choices to Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Most expect Jelks to stay in-state.

Kurt Freitag

Alabama is also wanting to sign a tight end in this recruiting class. Kurt Freitag is a possibility. He trimmed his list to four this month wich includes Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Miami. He wants to announce a decision early this fall. Alabama already has a commitment from one Buford, Ga. star in Dillon Lee.

Vadal Alexander

This is the third Buford standout the Crimson Tide hopes to sign. Alexander has been a top target for Alabama and rated the No. 5 guard prospect in the country. Dillon Lee is also trying to recruit his teammate to Tuscaloosa.

Alexander will make an early decision due to graduating from high school in December. He has his top three choices of Alabama, Auburn and LSU. He has visited all three schools several times. He has yet to announce when he will make a decision.
