Instant Impact: Chris Black

Chris Black, National 100 wide receiver from Jacksonville-First Coast, Fla., had trimmed his list of finalists to Alabama and Florida State. The Tide won this battle when the Sunshine State prospect announced his commitment this afternoon. Andrew Bone takes a look at the impact of Chris Black's decision to roll with the Tide.

The University of Alabama went in the Sunshine State and plucked one of the best prospects in the country. Chris Black was considered a lock to Florida State early in the recruiting process. Several unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa made a huge difference as time progressed with Black taking a final visit to Alabama in July.

Alabama loses three receivers after the 2011 season in Marquis Maze, Darius Hanks and Brandon Gibson. The coaching staff recruited a few playmakers in the 2011 class in Marvin Shinn, Danny Woodson, Jr,, and Bradley Sylve.

Alabama offered Casey Gladney, three-star receiver from Columbia, S.C., in June. They received a commitment, but will monitor his success in the classroom.

Justin Thomas from Prattville, Ala., is listed as a wide receiver on the commitment list, but has never played the position. Kenyan Drake is rated as a the top running back in Georgia, but could also move to receiver.

Chris Black in a offensive playmaker. He runs great routes, has good hands and the ability to make plays in the open field.

Black has plenty of young quarterbacks who can help get him the ball. Black will have an opportunity to compete early. Other recruited players will challenge for the spot, but Black also has the ability to make a strong run at early playing time.
