Alabama is ranked No. 7 in the Scout.com National Team Rankings with 17 commitments. Four players are rated in the National 100 which includes Reggie Ragland, Eddie Williams, Chris Black and Geno Smith. Alabama has also reeled in seven commitments from the state of Georgia including four four-star recruits.
The Tide coaching staff is putting together another strong recruiting class even though a couple of players in recent weeks committed elsewhere. A couple of big decisions could happen in the near future in favor of the Tide.
Amari Cooper, four-star wide receiver from Miami-Northwestern, Fla., earned a scholarship offer from the Tide after a great performance at Alabama's camp in July. He is expected to announce his college decision August 26th. He hasn't named a favorite, but Alabama appears in good shape to land his commitment.
Jordan Jenkins, five-star defensive end from Hamilton-Harris County, Ga., is the No. 1 player in the Peach State. He will likely play college football for an out-of-state program with the strong candidates of Alabama and Florida leading the way. He originally planned to announce at the U.S. Army All-American game, but may decide sooner rather than later.
Darius Philon, three-star defensive tackle from Prichard-Vigor, Ala., recently de-committed from Auburn. The Mobile native received an offer from Alabama following summer camp.
Beniquez Brown, four-star outside linebacker from Florence, Ala., has favored Alabama for several months. The commitment of Geno Smith could influence the two-way athlete to go ahead and pull the trigger for the Tide.
Kurt Freitag, three-star tight end from Buford, Ga., will announce his college decision September 10th. Freitag has trimmed his choices to Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Miami. A teammate, Dillon Lee, is committed to the Tide.
Players who have not indicated a decision date or will decide on national signing day and definitely on the Tide's radar include such prospects as Landon Collins, Eddie Goldman, Kwon Alexander, Dorial Green-Beckham, Vadal Alexander, Quay Evans, Deon Bush and Cyrus Jones.
