Green Has Another Good Game In Win
The play of upcoming Alabama senior JaMychal Green in the lane was critical in the win as the USA outscored Germany, 28-12, in the paint in the second half after finding itself down, 41-40, at halftime.
His 12 points came on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and a 2-of-4 showing from the free-throw line. He also added six rebounds, an assist and a steal in 15 minutes on the court. Minnesota's Trevor Mbakwe led USA Basketball with 21 points and eight rebounds.
"We did a great job of battling in the post," Green said. "Trevor (Mbwake) did a great job. We got the ball, made smart plays and that's what it was all about."
Despite the fifth-place finish, USA Basketball finished the World University Games with the best record in the 23-team field at 7-1 after being knocked out of medal contention by Lithuania in the quarterfinals.
In eight games in China, Green was second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game on 69 per cent shooting (38-of-55) with 5.8 rebounds per game.
