Three Tide Golfers In U.S. Amateur

WAUWATOSA, Wis. –Three University of Alabama men's golfers begin play at the 2011 United States Amateur Championship on Monday at Erin Hills and the Blue Mound Golf and Country Club.

Alabama senior Hunter Hamrick of Montgomery will be making his third appearance at the U.S. Amateur and will be joined by sophomore Cory Whitsett of Mobile and incoming freshman Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky. It is Whitsett's second trip to the U.S. Amateur – first since 2007 – while Thomas advanced to the round of 32 in 2010, losing to Alabama's Scott Strohmeyer.

Hamrick teed off the 10th hole at Erin Hills at 7:20 a.m. Monday while Thomas went off Erin Hills' first hole at 8 a.m. Whitsett will play his opening round at the Blue Mound Country Club beginning at 1:05 p.m.

The Erin Hills course is a par-72 layout that will play well over 7,200 yards and is set to host the 2017 U.S. Open. The Blue Mound golf and Country Club is a par-70 design that played host to the 1933 PGA Championship.
